    Dust collector filter replacement cycle

I had to retrofit my dust collector with a smaller filter. A little longer, but much smaller diameter. I am moving the same amount of air, but through smaller surface area. I've blown out the replacement filter once with compressed air, but difficult for me to do with a pancake compressor. I run out of air pretty quickly and have to wait for it to fill back up.

I cleaned it @ 6 months ago, and it needs it again. I've milled a lot of lumber, but no idea how many board feet. Needs to be cleaned again, but I was wondering how many times you can clean one before it is time to replace it?

This is what I used to retrofit my unit with. Thanks Brian

One needs to be careful with the compressed air , as you can easily damage your filter . A safer option is a leaf blower , or a battery powered blower . Most every tool brand offers one . Obviously gentle cleaning will extend your service life , so be as careful as possible .

Great suggestion thanks. How many times can you clean it? Brian

I suspect the only way to tell if your filter has degraded performance is with a particle counter under similar conditions after each cleaning.

Downsizing filter area is always going to be problematic. Is there any way to relocate the filter and use a larger one?

Bill, this is concerning. Just how many shop vacs do you have?
