Thread: Replacing the iron in a wooden handplane

    Well, still learning about planes, both wood and metal. I would think that if you went from a tapered iron to a straight one, you would need to redo the wedge, kind of like what Jack Dover said.

    Wedges for wooden planes are approximately 10 degrees. That's a good starting point. I've made one wedge before, getting a good fit takes a bit of assembling, disassembling and paring.
