Some useful things picked up...

First day of the West Liberty Labor Day Tractor Fest....runs through to dusk on Monday...was down there AFTER the eye surgery was canceled...
Spent about an hour strolling around, doing a bit of "shopping" amongst the vendors that were opened that day ( about half were) until the heat (not a whole lot of shade) and the weight of the shopping bag got to be a bit much..
So,,$13.25 was spent...on 7 items...

$4 for a canvas roll, WITH most of the drill bits...I think I just might have the ones to fill this out?

$3 for these 3 items...Timber Framer Chisel, 1-3/4" width....Millers Falls (Buck Rogers) No. 308, 3/8" chuck (I also have the 1/4" No. 104) and that Handyman H1220. Both drills have their handles filled up with drill points...

The $0.25? A cloth roll to hold a large set of chisels of your choice...Butt, or Carving...empty, of course...

Sunday, went back to the Fest, to see what I missed....Food cost more than the tools I picked...

A bottle of water was only $0.25 LESS than these 3 items put together...Italian Sausage with Onions and peppers, AND the bottle of water was $12!

The 2 wire brushes were $0.75 each..one steel , and one Brass wire

Was just too bleeding hot to be walking around there, today...

BTW: I used that Brass brush to clean up a No. 308 drill..

Sitting with it's "little Brother" the No. 104. The only difference I can find between them? The #308 can use up to 3/8" bits...the #104 can only go up to 1/4"...
aka "Buck Rogers" drills ( I also have the #1950 Brace and the #100 push drill....)

Puttering around, today.....got home from the hospital Sunday afternoon....ER Thursday evening. Leg Infections.

Discovered the iron in the block needed a wee bit more work...5 minutes to flatten the back,,,another 10 minutes to sharpen the edge to 1500 grit....was mainly to remove a few rust pits in the edge....will now do see through shavings with ease. Between that and hauling the dryer load upstairs ( used the hamper like a walker) spent MAYBE 20 minutes in the shop.

The Sargent iron has a weird lateral adjust riveted to it...gets in the way a lot....and is a bit tricky to get it to set into the depth adjuster ramp...They had a milled area for it, barely wide enough...

Right now, it can pull the same shavings as my Stanley No. 60-1/2....adjustable mouth is set a bit fine...can adjust IF need be. Iron is stamped as a Craftsman, BTW: No. 619-3704

The only useful things I have picked up since last Thursday....aches, pains, fever blisters, and more pills. Right calf is still very sore...

Maybe by next week at this time, I can go and get some Lumber supplies? In-between a few Doctors visits....Cataract surgery is now set (left eye) for the morning of the 26th...we'll see.

Have to refill the glass of water after a bit (Laundry Detail..) and get to work on that WIDE framer's chisel....will loose under 1/8" of edge, due to the line of pits at the current edge..
May take along a camera? Hmmm..

Then Hollow Grind on the 6' coarse wheel...then finally a flat single bevel @25 degrees was done on the 6" disc sander ( with a LOT of water dunking going on)

Ready for the Coarse Oil Stone....then a 600 grit Medium India,,,and finally, wrap a 1500 wet-or-dry sand paper around the India stone

At each step, I work on both the bevel and the flattened back....

The Great Neck Coping saw?

Was cleaned up tonight....all rust removed. Handle has been refinished...and a new blade has been installed.

Teeth are set to cut on the pull stroke. Old blade was worn out, DULL, and very rusty...and in backwards....and was tossed into the trash.

Next trip to the show, I will take along a camera...as the iron for a Stanley No.5 , Type 14/15 needed a wee bit of work.

Needs a wee bit more work...mainly the iron....needs squared to the sides, and a new bevel....no camber. May have Eric Brown nickel plate this and the Stanley's lever cap...we'll see..
