I found a very nice 5ft section of birch . I was wondering if it would be good for turning? I've never had any birch. TIA

It's great. I've never met any wood that wouldn't be "good for turning" over the past 38 years of turning. Some are just better.
Birch is excellent for turning, I have used it for segmented bowls. For spindle turning way back when I was making dozens and dozens of birch spindles used to repair chairs for a local restaurant. The dust can be a little annoying but the rewards are great.
You will need sharp tools and the sanded finish going from 120 to 320 or better is like glass

Like the others said, Birch can be great for turned projects. I've use it a number of times over the years and the figure can be exquisite.
