I-70 Bridge Demolition Tomorrow At 7:30 AM

The old I-70 bridge at Rocheport MO will be blown tomorrow morning at 7:30 AM. I wish I could be there to make a video from the champion Sycamore tree. The live stream should be cool. Darling will try to make a video. My old shop-mate was an ex-chemist who liked to make shape charges and other things that burn, shoot into the sky, or explode. It is amazing what a directed blast can do. I will post a link if I can figure out how to on mobile.

There was a show - I think it was Modern Marvels - that was about explosives. A segment I remember was 'welding' two sheets of steel together. They were each about an inch thick it looked like. It welded not just the exposed edges but the entire sheet, perhaps 4' X 8'.

Pretty common these days. This bridge at Louisiana Missouri was dropped a few years ago. I hated this bridge as much as any I used to cross. I slowed to a stop or a crawl if meeting another large truck. Rub the right side against the curb and hope mirrors missed. New bridge is fabulous.

They dropped part of the old interstate 74 bridge between Moline Illinois and Davenport Iowa a few weeks ago.

I'm real curious as to what they are going to do with the Howard Frankland bridge over Tampa Bay whose replacement bridge is being built now. Long bridge over the bay. Demolition should be interesting.

Looking at picture #4 I think they are going to need a bigger dumpster.
