    Dancing swallows box #2

    Hi all,

Finished up a second 'dancing swallows' box this weekend (well, "finally" finished-it was presented with a coat of oil on our anniversary proper and here's the final version with shellac).

The first box was a small ring box used in our wedding last year.

The second box was for our 1st anniversary and holds a bunch of photos from the first five years we've been together:

I posted some build notes in the Neander section:

As Ken says, click 'em to make 'em big. Thanks for looking,
    Chris

Graceful and endearing Chris! Skillful execution. I really like the sycamore. Coincidentally I was getting some hardwood 2 weeks ago and asked about quarter sawn stock. He said he had sycamore quarter sawn. The figure was eye catching and I picked up some sticks. You have put it to good use.

Thanks Mark! I also really like quarter sawn sycamore and need to track down some more as the plank I resawed for this project was my last. Can be too much, but the other place I like to use it is in the bottoms of boxes and the back panels of casework.

    Best,
    Chris

Thanks Kris. The double bevel marquetry is a bit of a palor trick-looks fancy but that hard once you know how it's done. Craig Vandal Stevens has a great book.
