    The cutting edge of the skew is angled relative to the axis of the tool. (The axis runs the length of the tool.) The end of the cutting edge furthest from the handle is the long point, the other e3nd of the cutting edge is the short point.

    Any size skew will do for turning straight thin spindles... the 3mm spindle on the left was done with the 1-1/4" skew next to it...

    For rolling small beads I prefer to use a small spindle gouge, bedan or parting tool.

    It's easy to see the Dunning-Kruger Effect in others, but a bit of a conundrum when it comes to yourself...
