    Bourbon Smoker Christmas Gift

A Christmas gift for my Daughters friend. He enjoys having a smoked bourbon with me when he visits, so I decided to make him one. The wood is Cherry with a buffed out sanding paste finish. I also made a storage box to hold it and the wood chips in. The screens for the wood chips can be found on Etsy, https://www.etsy.com/listing/1323385...acement-screen. The tin containers I found at Hobby Lobby and they can be found on Amazon.

Please explain to a non-bourbon drinker just how you operate this fine apparatus. Nice turning and box, for sure!

Bill, for us Bourbon drinkers, we pour a shot of the Bourbon of choice in a glass, with or without ice, place the smoker over the top of the glass.
The tin containers hold wood chips, in this one, Oak, Pecan, Cherry, and Maple. Put some of the chips of your choice in the strainer and light
using a torch lighter. Once the chips are lit and burning good, place the cap on the smoker, smoke filters down into the glass from the holes and is
infused into the Bourbon. After a few minutes, remove smoker, give the glass a little swirl and enjoy. It adds a unique woodsy flavor to the Bourbon.
I'm pretty sure someone in the cocktail business came up with the idea, tried it, liked the flavor it added to the drink and figured they could double the
price they could charge for a drink.

Bobby, thanks for the detailed and very interesting explanation. I'm in Canada and while we can get bourbon, it isn't the common drink here, most whiskey here is referred to as rye but I think it isn't all that accurate as far as ingredients go. Of course, there are the scotch drinkers too.
    Thanks again.

Bill,I can attest that they work well with rye, as I have smoked rye old fashioneds every now and then
Don't let it bring you down,
    It's only castles burning,
    Just find someone who's turning,
    And you will come around

I may have to fire up the lathe so I can fire up the rye and give this a try.
    Thanks.

Great idea for my brother and his son in law? What diameter are they?

From the Etsy link in the OP, the metal smoking screen insert is about 1-1/4" wide at top and about 1" deep. From the picture I'd say the top is roughly 4" in diameter; the more important diameter measurement is that it is wide enough to fit your drink glass.

I've been making my own versions of these. Where are you sourcing your screens?

Neil, in my original post, I have a link to the source of the screens I use. They are well made and not that expensive.

Bobby, nice work. Question: what are the 4 screens surrounding the smoker, inside the box? They seem to have no cavity.

Oh I think I understand. They're tins to hold what you burn.
