    Prep work for 2024

Still have a large batch of resaws sitting around...
    Leftovers for January, over view.JPG
Decided to glue up a few panels..
    Another Project, the selections.JPG
The "Two-tone" slats, were glued up into a panel...light grain edges, with the darker grain running in the middle of the panels..
Leftovers for January, 1st glue up.JPG

Others..were laid out, trying to match up the grain details..
    Leftovers, Panel #2 glued up.JPG
    Panel No.2 was a bit plain...#3?
    Leftovers, Panel #3 glued up.JPG
    Currently sitting IN the clamps....#4?
    Leftovers, Panel #4 Jointed edge.JPG
Needed the ends jointed a bit more than the first 3 did...
Leftovers, Panel #4, check for gaps.JPG

Looking for any gaps, before I can glue this one up..#5?
    Leftovers, #5 grain matched.JPG
    Is a "work in Progress"

Each panel will get dressed down flat...may cut some of them into smaller panels...

Hint: Will be out and about today...looking at Clock Kits, and similar Parts...as there is an area on top of my Computer Desk's hutch that needs...something.

    Stay tuned..

Panel #5...was expanded a bit to 3 pieces, then glued up ( will be out of the clamps later today) Because?
    Leftovers, Clock dial.JPG
This requires a 3" diameter hole...

Bought a few other needed items at Hobby Lobby, yesterday....hinges and a latch for the door to access the battery...needed a finial for the top of the case...some fancy feet and fancy corner brasses..and, just in case the battery door needs one...a handle....

May have to glue up another wide panel...for the Battery Door?

Panel #6 is in the clamps...added 2 narrower boards...to allow for the width of the Clock Face.....depending on how the grain turns out,,,it MIGHT be the front panel to hold the clock...we'll see

Dug through the set of Expansive Bits....found a Clark ConVal Co bit that will go to 3" diameter.....of course it did NEED a sharpening...snail is not the best..but, cutting through 1/4" thick Ash should not be much of a problem...need to choose the right sweep Brace drill 8"..10"...or 12"?

Issues with the camera and the computer not wanting to post photos in the correct Files....still hunting one from Yesterday.....

Square or Rectangular face to house that clock...hmmm 7" x 7" is a bit boring?

Panels have now been trimmed to size...except for the door panel..
Resaw Clock Project, Battery Door to size.JPG
It has been trimmed to 9"...and currently matches the front panel...size-wise..
Resaw Clock Project, where the clock will go.JPG
The 2 side panels were ripped down a bit....to match the base a bit better..
Resaw Clock Project, Beveled the Base.JPG
As they will be sitting on that raised, flat "field"..
Resaw Clock Project, base and a side.JPG

Need to miter a few "slips", as the front panel will use them...
    Resaw Clock Project, Miter cuts.JPG
And 2 of these will be glued to the side panels...
Resaw Clock Project, test fit, slip.JPG
Then, once the front panel is glued and installed....I'll cut a slip for the top and base...
Resaw Clock Project 2, Mitre box and saw.JPG
This works a bit better, than trying to use either of the Langdons I have....they just don't do small stuff like this..
Saw is a D8 Panel saw..20" long, 10ppi. Added a bit of scrap under the Mitre Box...
Resaw Clock Project, add for the vise.JPG
To better hold it in the vise...
    Stay tuned...

Tasks for today...along with a new battery in the camera...
Clean up the slips to the sides..
Resaw Clock Project 2, needed planed.JPG

Glue blocks...made, pilot hole counter bored, the the blocks glue in place..
Resaw Clock Project 2, pilot hole, counter sunk.JPG
Ran out of spring clamp, had to go back to c clamps..
    Resaw Clock Project, almost done.JPG
Let these sit a while..as I try to drill a 3" diameter hole..
    Resaw Clock Project 2, FAILED.JPG
It scored a deep line, but..that was about it...we have ways..
Resaw Clock Project 2, sawing completed.JPG
Craftsman 13", Tilting Table, Direct Drive...uses 5" Pinned blades...was able to at least follow the score marking...

Then the battery (the OLD one) died...had to stop for a while..as the new battery needed charged up, first..
    Stay tuned

Ok..Charged up Battery ready to go..time for a few Dry Fits!

First, wanted to check the fit of the clock to the hole..and hope it snaps into place, and NOT fall back out..
Resaw Clock Dry fits, panel fits.JPG
Snapped right in...adjust to up and down...

Brought out the base, both sides , the top, and the finial...to see how things were fitting up..
Resaw Clock Dry fits, sides, top, base, finial.JPG
Not TOO hateful..top and bottom slips are yet to go in..and some other details...but..something about that top I did not like..
Resaw Clock Dry fits, top too big.JPG
Was about an inch too broad in the beam? Ripped the "excess" off....re-beveled the "new" edge, and refreshed the older ones..
Resaw Clock Dry fits, resized top.JPG
Centered on the case's top...looks a bit better?

    Left this just sitting here..
Resaw Clock Dry fits, looking better.JPG
Lose, no glue or screws yet....have a lot of clean-up to do....with sand paper, planes, and the #80 Cabinet Scraper...

Then decide on how to do the battery door in the back....might have to build a door jamb around the door?

    Stay tuned..

Lowes today, because the Boss needed a couple items....and, I needed #6 x 1" wood screws ( bought both steel and Brass ones, Phillips headed..meh)

Shop is closed today..mainly because it IS a Monday...

Tomorrow is going to be Prep Before Assembly day...and MAYBE get some assembly done...we'll see..

Searched at Hobby Lobby and Lowes for a Finial....the one I bought at Hobby Lobby looks about the best fit

This Mantel Clock will be sitting on top of my computer desk's Hutch....when it is done....and will try to match the Finish of the desk & hutch..
    Moving day, all moved in.JPG
Stay tuned..(yes, I also built that desk & hutch...)

    "Some assembly required"?
AFTER sanding everything to 220 grit, of course..
Resaw Clock Assembly work, sides installed.JPG
Both sides were glued and screwed in place...
Resaw Clock Assembly work, front installed.JPG
Face panel was then installed, and the bottom slip added...with a nail in the center to hold it, while the glue sets

Resaw Clock Assembly work, edges softened.JPG
Top of the case was also sanded to 220...but, a block plane was used to slightly round the sharp edges a bit...
Resaw Clock Assembly work, top worked on.JPG
    And the Finial was installed...

Panel for the back of the case is no longer needed to be a door....but will get installed with 4 screws, in case I need to remove the back...
Edge were a bit wide, so..
Resaw Clock Assembly work, door needed slimmed down.JPG
Stanley #3, Type 11 to remove any excess wood. Because of the way I hold planes used as Jointers...IF I get in too big of a hurry...bad things happen..
Resaw Clock Assembly work, sharp corner attack.JPG
Yep, pulled back a bit TOO far..and the SHARP corner dug in....Fresh DNA ...Project is now "Official"!...( I hook the left thumb over the side of the plane, and use the fingers as a fence...keeps the edges square to the face, but...)

    Let this sit a day...

    Stay tuned..

Hand is healing up..Sharp corner of the board left a hole. A Chisel skipped out of a pare-ing cut, and dug into the left index finger...

Anyway, bandaids aside..clock is assembled and ready for some finish....as soon as I go and buy a few brushes..
    Time for the "Naked" PIP?
    Resaw Clock PIP, foot details.JPG
    Metal parts, details...

Back is installed with 4 screws, no glue..
    Resaw Clock PIP, back details.JPG
That way, IF I should ever need inside the case..

    Side view ?
    Resaw Clock PIP, side details.JPG
And Finally a view of the front..
    Resaw Clock PIP, Keeping time.JPG
Clock has it's battery installed, and is set back in place in the case...I can pop it back out while doing the finish...

Project had used up about half of the resaw boards....might be enough for another "Boxy" Project?

    Stay tuned..
