For a flat tanged tool, I recommend wedging the tang on either side with a 1/2 dowel.

So I got these done. I made the handle for the skew first then used it to make the other...I'm so impressed with the Thompson steel so far - can't stop making beads with it haha. The finish is a wash coat of garnet shellac and carnauba wax.
