    Portable Dust Collector

I haven't set up a proper woodshop yet, I am working inside my house and on my front yard doing a remodel project. Since I am only using one too at a time, I wonder if this is worth purchasing. I am using a 12" Bosch double bevel miter saw, 10" portable table saw, 13" thickness planer, and a router table.

    Maybe this one?:

If you had to choose between only these two options, go for the 1HP upright. That 1/2HP has a very tiny 6" impeller and it's not going to do much.

That being said, even with the 1HP, you'll have a hard time with the planer (unless you have the DeWalt 735 which has its own blower fan for pulling dust out). The table saw dust collection will not be that great either. The miter saw dust collection will pretty much be crap because it uses a small 1.5" tube (traditional dust collectors do not perform well with smaller hoses). Having a dust collector is better than nothing, but don't expect performance to be anything great.

With the tools that you have, I would probably stretch the budget and get a dust extractor type device. Examples below:

The Festool is definitely a lot more expensive, but it's an excellent machine and performs better than the other two because:
    - keep CFM/suction up even when bag becomes full/dirty
    - allows adjustment of suction for better use with random orbit sanders

If you are considering the Festool, you might just stretch the budget another $70 and get the CT25 which allows for bigger bag.

Otherwise, you can sometimes find a 1-1/2HP dust collector on craigslist in good condition (but sometimes they are just torn up).

Is there much difference between that DeWalt and other shop vacs of comparable size/power? I have a couple shop vacs.

FYI, a larger 1-1/2HP dust collector will do better on the tablesaw and planer. However, it will still be really crappy on the miter saw. One of the dust extractor / vacuums will do best on the miter saw (but you'll still have dust blowing all over the place).

The DeWalt actually does not perform as well as other shop vacs and dust extractors, but it is very quiet. The Fein is a middle-of-the-road. The Festool is the best because of constant suction power with dirty bag and the ability to turn down the suction for use on random orbit sanders. A large shop vac will actually pull the most air, but it's extremely loud/annoying and there is no way to turn down the suction.

If you don't mind using a shop vac, you can try a adapter kit like one of these:

If you have a 2-1/4" shopvac hose:

If you decide to look for a used 1-1/2HP traditional dust collector, something like this would help the miter saw:
