FS - Stearn No. 5 spokeshave

Some of us have a tendency to accumulate tools. I know the affliction is rare, but I find myself with tools that are duplicative, or buried away in a drawer. and aren't getting used much. This shave is at least 100 years old as it was listed in the 1924 E. C. Stearns catalogue. However, Stearns dates back to 1864 and were known for spokeshaves shortly thereafter in the early 1870s. In the early years of the 20th century they were beginning to drift into other more modern items. Stearns shaves are kind of interesting with the cast embossing of the logo. The blade is apparently original. It has no markings, but from what I can find their blades were rarely marked. The handles are straight, more in line with the mass of the shave similar to the Stanley 52. I find that design to be much easier to use as compared to gull wing handles.

In any event, the blade doesn't show any pitting, and I have sharpened a nice 30* micro bevel on it. As shown in the pic it seemed to work well on a faceted oak spindle rough out. Shipped to you for $50.
