    Angled Mortise

What is the best way to put an angled mortise into a flat top. I need to put a 15 Degree mortice into a bench top to support the legs. How would you do it

    Greg,
I saw the pic of the bench you are going to buiild on the design forum and it looks very nice. That said. to cut the mortise's I think I'd build a jig and cut them with a hand held router.

    Greg,
You will need to create a template that can be secured by clamps at each location that has a guide hole (of correct diameter) at the 15 degrees needed. If you want square mortises, then square up the corners after drilling.

I made a jig for my chisel mortiser out of a piece of oak about 3X5" and a foot long. First I ripped a 10 degree bevel, then I glued and stapled a strip of wood about 1/8" thick to the low side so the stock wouldn't fall off the jig. I drilled and counter sunk two holes through the jig and bolted it to the bed of the mortiser. Then you can slide the stock back and forth under the hold down clamp to make the mortise.
