    Riser Blocks?

I want to raise the bed of my lathe about 5-6" to bring it to elbow height. I can use two 6" square blocks or four 2"x6" (one under each pair of mounting holes). The question is though, what to use to make these 6" tall. I am thinking of laminating 2x4 stock (four layers). Is pine too soft? Using 8/4 hardwood seems a waste of good 8/4 stock. Other suggestions?

Actually pine would be ok to use. The foot of the lathe should keep the material from sinking in to deeply. My 02

I needed to go higher. I used 4X4's (construction grade Pine/Douglas fir) and two layers of 3/4" plywood. works fine for my hunk of cast iron.

My lathe is heavy and I turn some pretty gnarly bouncing kinda things on it. It's mounted on a pine bench I built and is holding up just peachy.
