Well I guess I'd better jump in here too......
Sakura, still a little wet, sanded to #180, about 6" long I guess...
I had fun doing it, I got foot long plus curlies coming off man is that neat!
Took me about an hour, but mostly because I was sooooooo afraid of orbiting it when I was cutting off the ends
Second real turning off the lathe....
Heck I can't even say it once...Originally Posted by Dennis Peacock

[QUOTE=Mike Ramsey]My entry is made from Mesquite, Just about time for the hordes of
skeeters to descend upon us so I thought I would turn a Skeeter
Bonker. 11 1/2" L x 4 1/2" W, real heavy! sanded with no finish.
Mike, with the skeeters I've seen in your neck of the woods ,
are you sure that is big enough bonker? I wouldn't want to just wound one.
Ernie
Ok, i can't hide from a fun contest like this so even though I'm very busy I wanted to take time to turn an entry. I tried some pyrography for the first time and it didn't turn out very well. My bonker is made from poplar with no finish. I call this my THONG BONKER.

Saddened to see that it's not segmented. Hmmm. This means that category is still wide open.

Okay, I still haven't made the time to get an electrician over to finish wiring my new circuit so I can use my new lathe (GFCI and VS are NOT compatible), BUT.....I couldn't take it any longer so strung an extension cord thru the dining room, kitchen, laundry room out to the garage and produced (drum roll please) my first ever turning - I call it a NE SOCKEYE SUBDUER. While not a work of art, it is purely functional with a slightly tapered grip complete with some grooves to ensure a good grip despite the expected slime/gore build-up.
Total time with lathe running - 15 minutes
Length - 11 "
Tools used - HF starter set dull as h*ll right out of the box (note burn from "sharp" parting tool)
Sanding time - NONE
Enjoyment factor on a scale of 10 - 75 gazillion!
I'm hooked. I have freely given myself to the vortex. I have seen the light and I am here to tell you THE WORLD IS ROUND!!!!!!
Officially Retired!!!!!!!! Woo-Hoo!!!

Hey Barry!!!! Looks really good to have no sanding done on that bonker of yours!!! Very good work there. BTW, where's your grinder to sharpen those turning tools?
