A new box form....at least for me

I have been working on new box shapes for my flat grain boxes and documenting the steps in turning them for a little project I am working on.

Here is one that turned out okay I thought made from cherry and about 4 1/2" in diameter and 2 3/4" tall.

Polished up like glass, you gotta love the way that fine grained cherry does that. Only problem is one little knot that I uncovered in the lid that mars it a little.

I have done so much with so little for so long I am now qualified to do anything with nothing......

P.S. If you are interested in plans for any project that I post, just put some money in an envelope and mail it to me and I will keep it.

I like the wood, design, and how you have combined the 2.

Hey, if we wanted plastic, we would have bought plastic. knots are what sets it off from factory/plastic stuff.

Nice box. almost big enough for my life savings

Hey, Mike. I like it. I really do, a lot.

And that little knot is just fine. Think of it this way - in a very subtle way, it draws attention to the fact that the rest of the wood is drop dead gorgeous.

Even with the diversity of form, I still recognize this as your work, Mike. That's a good thing and not many turners exhibit the quality. Nice piece! I really like it.

Thank you all for the nice comments, always nice to hear.

George, I doubt seriously that someone hasn't done this shape or something similar before so I sure don't have a copyright on it. Flatter me, turn a million of 'em.
