I have gold in my shop!!

Well, PM yellow to be exact.

A new PM 3520B lathe was delivered on Friday and I set it up this weekend. I had my SIL lined up to help me but I started opening the box before he got here and one thing led to another and I figured out a way to put it together by myself without hurting my back so by the time he got here all that was left to do was hook up the wiring.

I also bought a Oneway Stronghold chuck to use on this lathe. Now I need to set up a vacuum system similar to the one that I saw at Dick Parr's when I visited him.

The first picture is where I had bolted the legs to the frame and was getting ready to set it upright.

The second picture is the completed lathe with the largest piece of wood that I had avaiable. I just had to see how it would handle a large uneven piece. It didn't move at all and had only a very small amount of vibration. I think I am going to love using it.

    You've got ONE thing wrong!!

    Joe,
Congrats on the new lathe!! I LOVE mine but I am one who reads the "Instruction Manual". The big guard that came with the lathe is supposed to be worn on your head - not fastened to the lathe!! EGADS!! How do you get your chisels into that Gorilla Cage?? Besides, half the fun of turning is testing your "ducking" reflexes when a big chunk of "catch" comes at your face!

If you want, I can send you pictures of how to modify that "guard" into a useable and far more versatile face shield!

    Again, Joe, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Been feeling nauseous all night - then I read about your new latherizer and thought rolling over and dying would be an improvement.

Then I read this post upstairs.
