Always wondered what dogwood looks like. I love the trees and the wood is equally beautiful. Good job!

Jack, this is a nice bowl. I love the way the wood displays itself. Good work.

Nice bowl Jack. It's interesting how dark your dogwood bowl is. The dogwood I've turned recently has a creamy white sap wood and chocolate brown heartwood with some pink and red mixed in. I guess it all depends on where the tree grew.

    You've got a winner there.

Beautiful, Jack! Just gotta' love the wonderful variation of tones. Great looking form and you kicked butt on the finish, as well! Good job.

Very nice! I have turned a lot of dogwood and I have never seen anything like that. Are you sure it was dogwod? Not saying it isn't! Regardless I like it.

I notice you not far from me. Have any good wood sources? Both flat and/or turning woods?

This one had some nice color to it. How big is it? What did you finish it with?

    Dogwood bowl

The bowl is 6.5" in diameter and 2" tall. The finish is Olympic Polyurethane Premium Interior, oil based, clear gloss, 4 coats if I remember right.
Dogwood has become one of my favorite woods to work with. It has an incredible range of color, is dense, very hard and works well. I'm fortunate in my ability to get it on a pretty regular basis. In this area we have had a Dogwood disease come through and people are cutting them down or trimming out the dead limbs. In addition the area I work in is an older section of town and it's my understanding that dogwood will live about 30 years or so and then start to die off, don't know if that's true but there is usually a stack of it at the curb somewhere on my route that I help the city to "dispose" of. Thanks for all of the kind words everyone!
