    Welding in SketchUp

I just thought I'd post a little tip for the SketchUp users. If you haven't done so, download a copy of the Ruby script called weld.rb and put it in your Plugins folder. This is an extremely useful because it will join line segments so they behave as one for selection purposes. It is especially handy when creating profiles for Push/Pull or Follow Me because it will save you loads of time after extruding the profile. You won't have to smooth or hide the lines generated off the intersections of the line segments during the extrusion. The attached example is made from an imported DXF Unistrut profile. The one on the left shows what happens if you simply run Push/Pull. The one on the right was welded first (took about 5 seconds, if that) and then Push/Pull was used.

This is also effective for hand drawn profiles of molding and other patterns.

Wow, makes a lot of difference. I am going to have to try out some Ruby stuff. I have seen it mentioned but I haven't paid attention to it yet, have to do some reading and see what Ruby does.

I forgot to include a link to where you can get weld.rb.

Try this one. Lots of good scripts there. http://smustard.com/
