    Belts slipping

Recently, the belts started slipping on my Unisaw. I have had it for about three years. I adjusted the tension on the motor and it was fine for a while. It started again after a short while. I have cut a lot of material with and without a dado on the saw. I have also cut quite a bit of laminate material. Is it possible the the belts have become coated with this dust combination of laminate and lumber and that is causing the slip? Do I clean it off or is time for new belts?

You shouldn't need to replace them yet unless they have cracks or show signs of a lot of wear. I suggest you re-tension them when they're hot and don't be afraid to make them quite tight.

The significant problems we encounter cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.

The penalty for inaccuracy is more work

Once the belt slips it will usually develope glazing which can cause the belt to slip even easier. You may also try rubbing the belt with a bar soap. This will help give better grip.
