    Question source for UHMW?

Anyone have a source for good prices on UHMW sheets/strips? The prices I see from thw WWing suppliers seem, uh....pricey. Maybe the stuff is just plain expensive and I need to buck up and pay, but I thought I'd ask around first. If there's a good source I'm sure someone on SMC will know of it. As always, TIA!!!

    Polymer Industries

    Mark,
Not sure if you wanted something local or if mail order will work.

    Have a look at http://www.polymerindustries.com/polymer/index.shtml

They are friendly to work with and sell offcuts as well as small orders.

    Mark,

When my local surplus store that buys plastic shorts ran out I picked up some from Peachtree Woodworking Supply. They run around with the woodworking shows and had some pretty fair prices.

    Mark,

Check under plastic in the yellow pages. Most places that carry lexan and such have UHMW. You will probably get a good price on their remnants. I asked for some scrap one time, the guy was quick to correct me, said at the price or UHMW, they are remants, not scrap! No sense paying shipping and this way you can support the little local guy! It cuts well and planes nicely, I use it for jig runners.

Don't know what you are using it for, but here we get wear strips for a tobbacco harvester from local farm store. They are 3/8X1X10' in length. Cost about eight bucks each . I use them to make miter bars for jigs. Saw slightly over size and plane to exact size needed. Peachtree carries 4' lengths, but they don't show up on web site. It has to do with shipping.
