Photos from Bill's 5 Barns BBQ

Well I got back from Bill's 5 Barns BBQ in one piece. It was a great day and I got to talk to so many of my friends from WoodCentral and SMC. The food was fantastic as were the people attending!

I got some sharpening tips from Ellis Wallentine and Alan Turner (and hopefully will be able to try them out before I forget all I've learned), hung out with Ron Sardo and Steve Antonucci, finally managed to meet up with my friend Ruth Niles, and spoke to many of you I haven't seen in a long time.

Here are some of the photos I took:
Steve Antonucci at the Vega lathe
    Working at the lathe
    Ron Sardo and Lee Schierer
Tyler Howell with Tom Sweeney in the background
Tom Sweeney at the Poolewood Lathe
    Bill Grumbine "holding court"
    Mike Rubes and Ruth Niles
    Myself and Ruth Niles
Col George Dart and William Duffield
Dan Donaldson, Walt Drummond and ?
Bill Grumbine, Moses Yoder, and Joanne Adler
Ellis Wallentine at the sharpening station

    See ya around,

Looks like a good time was had by all. By the way...Is it me or is Bill's turning muscle shrinking? Looks good.
I could cry for the time I've wasted, but thats a waste of time and tears.

    More Pictures From Five Barns

The "Big" attraction at Five Barns this year was obviously Tyler...a really great guy in every way. His lovely daughter, who is currently studying in Philadelphia was every bit as warm as the "old man", too...

And just so you can see how upstanding Tyler is, here's a picture of him with Mr. Grumbine and "the bowl" that Bill has just finished coring...

Oh, and just to keep things honest and in perspective...

In this shot, Tyler holds court with a few folks...the pony tail in the front left is Tyler's DD (dear daughter)

Bill got a bit of turning in, working with a very nice hunk of black walnut that he also cored for demonstration

Speaking of daughters, Alesya gives Robert Tarr a few pointers on using hand planes during the picnic break (and it should be noted that Robert was a big winner in the hand plane contest...congrats!) as Nastia gets ready to record another documentary comment for the video camera. (That I was also shooting these stills with)

So Dominic and Jim.... Did perchance a sharp pointy tool thingie; a fast and spinable thongalating latherizer; and Mr. Howell ever get into concurrent proximity to one another? That's the pic I'm waiting for with baited albeit odiferous breath.

Jim...................Normally when someone post photos of a Creeker gathering I post that I'm Green with envy. In this case.........I'm laughing so hard I can't get my breath and I've turned blue! I am seriously envious!

Uh-oh Dominick...looks like your picture hosting bandwidth was exceeded. Your pics were too popular. I'll check back later and see if they're available.. Still, sounds like it was a great time, and I wish I could've been there myself.

Thanks for the pics Dominic and Jim. Hopefully we'll get some more from others that were there also.

I knew immediately there was something wrong with that first pic you posted Jim. My memory is short, but I do remember April 2006 and there's no way Bill could have shrunk, or Tyler grown that much in that short a time.

One of these years I'll make it to the 5 Barns, until then I'll have to settle for pics of the event.

    Thanks guys.

Dom and Jim, thanks for posting the pictures. I have a few of my own I will get getting up shortly. A great time was had by all, and we hardly had any cleanup to do at all people were so neat and helpful. We're already looking forward to next year!
