    Yellow Birch (Flame)

I am itching to use some yellow "flame birch" that I have been waiting on for several months now....I cant seem to get it below 10% in my (dehumidified) basement.....I do have lots of hard maple down there that is around 8%....should I continue to wait...or is the 10% ok?

    Getting impatient!........

    Frank,
Where do you live? I use 10% maple quite often. However, I am not in Arizona.

If you use proper building techniques (ones with movement in mind) you should be ok in most areas.

Be sure to acclimate it to your shop first. I usually often rough-mill my stock down to appx dimensions, bring it to the shop for a few weeks to do it's thing, then mill it to the final dimensions.

Never a problem yet. (I also use VERY wide boards).

    Good luck!

I often work with 10-12% MC lumber...that's what it gets to and stays at around here. No problems. No matter what, one must build with wood movement in mind... ...even with "just out of the oven" KD material.
