    Howling drain pipe?

I just hooked a 10' length of 4" corrugated flex drain pipe to my Super Gorilla DC to see if it would work for temporary over the blade dust collection. Bad idea. This thing howls at a high pitched harmonic that is ear splitting. Anyone ever do this and come up with a cure or is the drain pipe simply NG? I was going to try a short length of rigid pipe on the end but I doubt its going to work.

I had the stuff and the DC is new so I am playing around (no pics so I must be a liar).

That type of flex pipe is relatively "rigid" and is going to vibrate in interesting ways...which produces noise. You will likely be MUCH happier with some decent dust collection oriented flex hose, however...it's a softer, more flexible product and the good stuff has a much smoother interior, too. Still it should be used to a minimum for best performance. (But do NOT run your Gorilla without some form of duct attached...)

Where can I get good DC hose? Might any local HVAC or plumbing suppliers have anything that is a suitable substitute?

No, it's unlikely you'll find it locally...even in many woodworking shops--they tend to carry the really low end stuff. Order from Oneida, Air Handling Systems, Grizzly, Amazon.com, etc.

Regular 4 inch PVC drain pipe... not the corregated perforated type... works pretty good as 4 inch dust collector pipe, and is fairly inexpensive. I use it, but I also have learned how important 6 inch rather than 4 inch pipe is. In fact two 4 inch pipes is still less capacity than one 6 inch pipe.

    Flex hose

Beginning tommorrow, Rockler has 10' sections of clear DC hose for $12.99. This is an in store price. Bought a couple today ( yes I know it was a day early).
