    Help with corel file

    Hello All

Could someone help me. I have a cdr file from a customer who is out of town and I can not open. I wanted to have the job done by the time he gets back. I get an error message when I try to open.

"not importable using the selected filters or this format is not supported."

I am on version 12 I don't know if that is the problem or what. If someone can open and save as ver 12 they would be bailing me out even when they didn't know I was leaking.

    Thanks

    John

It opens fine under X3. I saved it as version 12:

Hope it helps...doesn't look like there's anything there that's X3-specific.

Unless/until you spring for X3 you have to get used to telling customers that you need their Corel file saved as version 12. Also, if they are giving you any kind of file from Adobe CS2 tell them to save it as version 10 or below (the last one Corel 12 can open).

John!!! You are my long lost brother!! I too try to make do as long as possible I have 2 old machines that only work under WIN 98 so that should tell you something about my updating~~~~NADA!! My other machine is XP Pro though and I'm still only running Corel 11. I do see X3 in the near future, not cuz I want it, cuz I need it to see the files that flow through the forums

    Anti-updaters

    Hello Bruce

Should we start planning the first Anti-updaters meeting. Let me tell you I think some of the upgrade thing is a racket. I purchased a new treo 650 phone last weekend I wanted to add my contact from a program called ACT 2005 ($350) that I have had for about a year. It would not sync. with my phone when I called ACT they told me that ACT 2005 would not work with PALM's newest version and that you guessed it have to upgrade for $200 I may switch to Outlook which I already have.

On the metalworking side of my business we have nesting software which costs $30,000.00 and if you don't update every year for $1000.00 they will not support you. Some of the updates do nothing as far as I can tell (I know that some things may not be visible to the user but help the system run better). But when I told them we were considering switching to another supplier they dropped the upgrade fee to $500.00. Still steep but better.

But lastly you will love this, when I started the company in 1992 I purchased a programming software for $7,500.00 we have never updated it still works great we have just upgraded yes thats right upgraded our server to XP pro and our 1992 Dos based software is still running great.

LETS HEAR IT FOR OLD GOOD RUNNING SOFTWARE

I'm in the camp of those willing to pay healthy sums of money for software upgrades (be they real upgrades or simply annual maintenance fees which most specialist/industrial use software requires). This money goes to ensuring the company remains in business and is there when you need them in the future. We (you) would be stuck firmly up $^!# creek without a paddle if most of the companies we (you) rely on were to go belly up.

In the case of Corel Draw X3, the upgrade is HUGE. There are lots of new features in X3 that I now RELY on that make my life a whole lot easier than it was with Corel Draw 12. The paltry $179 upgrade fee for this (effectively new) software suite is an absolute BARGAIN in my opinion.

In my life, there are many pieces of software I rely on. Here are a few:

    Microsoft XP/Office
    Corel Draw
    Corel Painter
    Photograv
    Steinberg Cubase
    MOTU Digital Performer
    Apple OSX/Final Cut Pro/iTunes/Compressor/etc.
    AWR Microwave Office
    CST Microwave Studio
    Spectrum Microcap
    PADS
    and many many more.....

I pay the upgrade money unbegrudgingly with a smile and say thank you for producing such wonderful software products and sticking around to support them.

    ave F.

For engravers and sign guys , the upgrade to X3 is a no brainer , smartfill , create boundary , fillet/scallop docker and the trace function will save you tons of time and money.
Problem is , x3 will not run on XP unless you have SP2 installed so your windows OS also has to be up to snuff. We had issues when puters we bought from dealers who sold em with supposedly legal copies of windows , couldnt ugrade the OS cos of windows piracy detection.
