    Segmented Re-turn

I origanally did this piece in 2003. It is Lepoardwood, Redheart, Wenge and veneers. It is 8" dia. x 5-1/2" tall. I was quite proud of it then but as time has passed and as I have learned so much more about form I really became unhappy with it. The base was bigger and it was flat on the sides and the walls were to thick. So, as I have aquired the tools that would allow me to do it, I re-turned it, reducing the size of the foot and adding some curve to the sides, and reducing the thickness. It is still not a perfect form, in my eyes anyway, but it is so much better than it was. As always, your comments are welcome. (I just noticed in the pics, the white veneer lines look ragged. They are not that way in person)

    Thumbs up

    Keith,

Great work!!! I think you did a beautiful job with the profile. The only thing I might have wanted would have been a smaller foot, but that's a minor consideration.

What method did you use to re-mount the piece on your lathe?

Mark, Thanks. I chucked it with my Supernova in the opening and the cut a recess in the base, reshaped the body, turned it around and chucked in the recess and hollowed and reformed the top. Then turned back around and used my vacuum chuck to finish the foot. I agree I would have like a little smaller foot but I was out of wood so to speek.

I agree with everyone else that you made it look much nicer. But it wasn't too shabby to start with. That's a very interesting segmenting technique and pattern. It's a nice combination of woods too.
