Thread: Selling my Lathe........

  1. Selling my Lathe........

............ yep, I am.....................no, no, no......... not the DVR, but the old C-man lathe.....

I have not used it, the kids are only slightly interested, and I don't have the space to keep it around.

I dressed it up some, as I would like to get my money back out of it.

This is the lathe that a friend, Dalton sent me for the price of shipping, from the States.

    It started out like this..........

it needed some TLC to get it going, but I fixed it up.

It worked well to get me truly, and deeply into Abbys.....

Now I tried to sell it for my cost to a few guys, a couple were interested, one guy really wanted it, but in the end, as he was just getting into woodworking he decided on a tablesaw instead, good idea, for him, as he still has to build some cabinets for his newly renovated house

As I could not give it as a "Great Deal" to a friend, I decided to sell it on Yahoo auctions (no E-bay here!).

Here in Japan, the options for wood working lathes here are few and far between.

Here is what is available to a hobbyist.

This will set you back $200 plus about $25 for shipping

This one is about $320. plus $40 shipping

For chucks, this is what they have.......

Yep, that is $100 to you, plus $15 shipping.............

Now the WT-300 is a cheap copy of the old C-man lathe, I've seen one in person, and the castings are about half the thickness of the old C-man, and the tube bed is split in two, and I under stand that is really vibrates a lot.

This is what I ended up with.........

Some paint, and a lot of sanding, then polishing and the lathe don't look much like it did when I got it.

I also made a safety cover for the belt and pulley set up.

Some upgrades are that I put a linked belt on it, made it run so much smoother!

I also made a stand of sorts for it, that is a torsion box under it, VERY solid and a touch on the heavy side, as there is a lot of plywood in that box!

I have also added a lot of accessories..........

    the original 12" tool rest
    shop built 6" tool rest
a shop built bowl tool rest
    two face plates
    a new drive center
    a new live center
    the Grizzly chuck

I also made use of the tool rest handle from the DVR as I got a better one.

I really tuned this lathe up, and I doubt it ran this well when new from C-man.

Another look at the accessories I'm selling with the lathe.

I'm not selling any tools with it, as I don't really have any to sell, I use all the ones I have.

Anyway, I figure I have near $300 into the lathe, not counting the shipping from the US or the generous gift from Dalton.

This is what I'm up against on the auctions for a "set"............

Everything you see in the pic, for a low low price of $1600..........

I think it should sell, I hope so, as I just put an $800+ order in at Lee Valley, for stuff I need for the upcoming Humidor project, and a bunch of stuff for Christmas presents, got to pay the bills somehow!
    Well, what do you think?

    Cheers!

Sorry, I did not, as the price is not really relative to what you guys in the US can get.

Just the same, I think it is worth at least the same amount as the Chinwanese copy the WT-300, and I hope it goes for more than that.

    = $360.....?

    = $360....?

    I sure hope so!

    Cheers!

Yea, yea, yea you rat. You put so much into getting set up to turn, that that title coming from you was going to give me a bad day. Dang you Stu.

Wow, you did a great job on the c-man lathe. It certainly aught to go for at least as much as the other.
