    Altering a finnished cabinet?

In my old shop I had 8' of cabinets which I have since moved to the new shop. Now I am adding an additional 7' of cabinets with a bead edge and want to match the old cabinets. My question is this, can I just route the bead in the old cabinet and refinish or should I remove the finish then route the bead and refinish? FYI the cabinets are hardmaple no stain just poly finish.

You can, I suppose, but this is shop furniture. Why not put the effort into some real furniture?
