Adding a 1/2 bath to 2nd floor of my new place.

• Is 2" pipe large enough to carry waste vertically?

And just like you're keen on electrical being to code, the same needs to hold for plumbing. In fact, around here, they barely look at electrical but are all over plumbing...

3" waste and a 3" vent uninterupted from toilet to outside. In other words, sinks and showers can't (or shouldn't, depending on inspector's mood) drain into the toilet's vent path, in most areas of the country.

You might look at a 4' pipe and vent, many roto rooters need a 4" vent to get the job done. Its easier than pulling the stool and having the machine in the john with all attending grease and grime.

Code no longer requires a fell 3" vent to daylight for every bath in CT anyway. 2" is OK as long as one toilet has a 3" vent through the roof.

I strongly advise 4" waste drain for commode, ya never know when an Al Bundy situation will arise.
