    Ipe Finish trouble

first time working with ipe and also teak oil. put on the oil per instructions on the can, first coat no trouble, second coat instructions were to let it set 15 min then wipe off. well this am went out to chk on it and the secound coat didnt dry the shop temp is around 60 to 65 have left it till tonight in hopes it will dry, if not what should i do? wipe it down with some mineral spirts and let it dry further??

Eeeeeeeeeeek! Never worked w/Ipe but, as I understand it, the stuff is as close to steel as you're going to get! I have a hunch that the sheer density of it isn't allowing the oil to penetrate. Yeah, I think I'd wipe down with mineral spirits or naptha or similar. Also, on most any dense wood I oil, first coat is typically 50/50 oil to naptha or mineral spirits mix. The thinning down allows for better penetration. Let us know how you make out with that.

The oils can be used to disolve themselves and the steel wool removes th excess resin ....this finish is easy and fixable and work well.
Ipe is a harder wood and does not allow much absorption....the oil lays on the surface and dries....the harder the wood the less time to wipe out

    Larry glad it worked
