Weekend Accomplishments....

Well, another weekend has come and gone. No real shop time this weekend has I have worked almost every hour of the weekend while oncall for "work". I am beat and sleepy to boot.

What did you do this weekend? Any shop time? Projects started or completed?

Best of weeks......
Thanks & Happy Wood Chips,

No shop time here. With 2 huge football games on this weekend, it just didn't happen. PU almost got OSU at the Horseshoe, but it wasn't to be--they lost 16-13 in OT. But, the Colts avenged their 41-0 playoff loss to the Jets of last year with a win at home yesterday. 1 out of 2 ain't bad. Other than those many hours watching those games, I managed to get my latest batch of beer bottled (an English Brown Ale, AC=5.1%), so it should be ready for me, my bro and my BILs at Thanksgiving. I also got wind of a training fire for my townships VFD, so I went yesterday to that and took 70 pics of it. I hooked up with a friend of a couple friends from another VFD who was there, and he's supposed to call me to take more photos the next time they burn a house down.

Smile Weekend

Got to get back into the shop, the thumb is feeling much better and I'm off prescription pain med's, still taking some ibuprofin though. Felt great to be back in the shop. I made a "Slatted Shelf" from plans from August Home Publishing. It came out great, I made it for a guy at work who is trading me a vintage Delta Floor model drill press for these shelves. He built a new home and didn't want to move the drill press, knew I was looking for a new one and he needed a small coat rack with a shelf for his entryway from the garage to the kitchen and felt the trade would be fair. I agreed and made him the shelf and picked up the drill press.
The drill press is old, very old, but still has only 0.004" runout regardless of the spindle location (fully up, in the middle, or fully down). I think that I made out good - feel like I took advantage though (Drill press for a pine coat rack/shelf). I guess I will just owe him a few favors.
The wife was back at the scrollsaw again, so I had company in the shop. It is nice to share a hobby with the other-half. (It helps when you need equipment too!!)

Have a great week, Dennis - sure hope you get some shop time next w/e.

Mornin' Dennis,

Seems like you're on call about every other weekend now. That must get old, especially since they make you work all weekend!

Spent all day Saturday wrapping up the cabinet making class that I started last Tuesday evening. I had four happy students with four nice cabinets Saturday evening, so I would call it a success. Spent a great deal of time with LOML Sunday, but did manage to put the final finish coats on a couple of Christmas projects.

Have a great week everyone,
Bob

Smile Week-End Shop Time

I was able to get in some shop time on Saturday. I finished up a book case that I am building for my Grand-Daughter. All it needs nows is a little bit of sanding and then it's paint time.
Also worked on cleaning up the shop. That was a major job. Had saw dust from one end to the other.

I oiled up a curly cherry Mission rocker and finished up the Shaker adjustable music stand for my brother. The rocker turned out well, but may have a bit too much figure in places. I wasn't pleased with the music stand kit...I'll do it myself next time.

Cool

The "honey-do" list wasn't as extensive as I had anticipated, so I got some more shop setup time. Used up some odds & ends spray paint on the "inhereted" steel cabinets. Looks funky, but much better than the faded light green they had been. Got a few more boxes unpacked and put away. Setup antenna for the shop TV and radio. Arranged old hand-me-down base cabinets for the soon to be miter station. Started planning for the TS outfeed/router table and miter saw tables. I did manage to get some needed flashing done on the house and installed the new ceiling fan in the family room. These weekends are just way, WAY too short, but I did get to watch the "battle of the Bays" yesterday. Have a GREAT week, all!

Well, no shop time at all, bummer. I spent the day outside on Saturday cleaning the yard and moving things into the garage storage. Speaking of storage, I organized the storage unit I have built in above my garage door. I have 12' ceilings, so a few years back I built a loft storage unit across the whole front of the garage above the door. Anyway, I needed to reorganize it. Now I have a nice load for the dump.

Watched the Cats punk Nebraska in Lincoln for the first time in 30+ years and then the chumps puke all over themselves in Cincy. Oh well, we still are on track to make the playoffs and hopefully Houston. I know there are a whole bunch of teams that wish they were 9-1.

Shopping with the wife filled most of the rest of the weekend. That's about it. I really need to get some time in this week to make up for not being int he shop during the weekend.

Spent the whole weekend in the shop! Finished up about half a dozen projects. All are ready for finish.

Bob,

Here is how the work week for when one is oncall with us:

Normal 8AM to 5PM Monday - Thursday.
Take any after hours call from 5PM to 11PM (night person takes it from there).
Friday you work from 5PM to Sunday night at 11PM....Straight....

If no computers or backups are screaming at you, you can at least get a quick nap once in a while. Some weekends are worse than others. It is most common to work 36 hours straight without a single break. If you are lucky......you can get a little sleep. Other than that.....work calls.

Holy smokers, Dennis! That just royally sucks! I sure do hope they're paying you appropriately for literally giving up a live of your own. Has anyone looked into a bit more elegant solution than having someone dragging ass for 36 hours straight? I mean, there IS such a thing as "burnout"! I know I wouldn't be as effective in my own IT position after the first 14 or 16 hours, much less two or three times that. Sorry, but that whole schedule verges on the brink of insanity! Don't know...Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but even if I could last the 36 hours, it would take another 48 to 72 hours before I'd be back to "normal"! You must be some kind of "superhuman" to do it, Dennis!

13. Wow!

I got the second coat of acrylic on the rear deck railings which I designed and built about seventeen years ago. I have rebuilt and painted them twice and the last time I used treated wood. They seem to be holding upbetter this time.

I also finished this short "loose change" stool I had turned. Walnut wedged through tenons into the seat. Wipe on poly finish.
