    solvent safety

This week I was in two shops of lathe friends. Both had 1-2 five gallon plastic pails of DNA in their basement shop along with furnaces and hot water heaters. Almost no one would consider storing gasoline in their house or even garage, but think nothing of using and storing flameable paint solvents in their shops. DNA is used in alcohol lamps and stoves. Lacquer thinners have very flameable acetone. Toluene- flameable and liver damage, Paint strippers dichlormethane- a carcigen.

Use only in well vented area such as garage with overhead door open.
no soaking of brushes and rags execpt out side.
store all solvents away from house. A $50-60 lowboy garden tool box with a padlock will work. $50 is a lot cheaper than a new house or burned child !!!

Has been covered many times, but we need constant reminders.

Can you elaborate on what DNA stands for?

Yet another reason to have a separate shop.
