Introducing my self as a new member......

Hi i am from Tasmania Australia the home of Huon Pine and other beautiful species which i regularly collect and mill and am very interested in timber and wood work.I am about to procure a portable saw mill which is a lucas mill made here in oz (www.lucasmill.com.au)i have hired one for some time and now is the time to get my own as logs are coming thick and fast now.I have sassafrass, myrtle, blackwood, huon pine.and silver wattly at the moment and am in the midst of building a kiln to speed up the drying time so if anyone has any cheap ideas on home kilns please let me know as all information is welcom.I am impressed with this site and look forward to participating.

    Welcome Jim...
I think you will like it here and I'm sure you will be able to contibute lots. Besides...it's always nice to hear from people who are enjoying summer while we're getting snowed in.

    Welcome Jim!

That Lucas Mill sure is a nice machine. I've only hired out mills before - I don't own one though. The Lucas style of mill appeals to me because there is less log handling.

Let's see a picture of your log lot! (Don't make any excuses that it is messy though, because they all are!)

Looking forward to your addition to this great group. Todd.

Hey, Jim...now you have us all jealous of that fine timber you have available. Do post pictures and educate us about your local species...we love to learn!

    Howdy!

    Jim -

Welcome! Glad to have you aboard. Sounds like your sawmill is about to be very productive. Owning is always better than renting. How large a kiln are you contemplating?

    Regards,
    Ted

    Welcome

Its great to have new members. We rely on the folks down under to set us straight once in a while. Pull up a soft rock and dangle your feet with the rest of us. We look forward to seeing work from your local species.
