    Yet another segmented pice

Here's another segmented piece, obviously inspired by Malcolm Tibbetts work. Maple and Walnut, 17" tall x 12" dia. The sphere and ring rotate on teflon bearings. The base has a steel plate imbedded to add weight for stabilty. The sphere was made a couple of years ago, the ring & base over the last week. I knew when I made the sphere it would be a part of something else, it just took a while to get around to it.

    You segmenters are killin' me!

Randy, that is awesome! I'm not even going to ask how many hours went into that. Even harder to quantify would be how much patience it took. Congrats on a job well done. Beautiful work of art.

Randy, what a fun, well done piece! I'm honored that I somehow provided a little inspiration, but you've more than proven your own capabilities. Sorry that I missed you a few weeks ago in Portland. We'll have to get together and compare notes at the AAW Symposium. Actually, one of the events at the symposium will be a “special interest” series of get-togethers on Friday evening. I’m slated to moderate a discussion on segmented turning. I sure hope you can make it. Again - great piece.

    Hi,

Thanks for all the comments. It took about a week to make. As far as actuall hours...I dunno...don't keep track. I generally spend from 4 to 10 hours a day in the shop, depending on what else I have going on (bicycle riding has priority on nice days).

    Title...not yet. Maybe "Orbit 1"?

Jonathan, if you want a closer look, it'll be at the Cascade meeting this Thursday.

Large amounts of WOW,Randy. I can only admire segmented turnings, not make them. True artistry, man. You and Malcom keep inspiring us. Thanks, Max

I don't know if I am going to make it to the CWT meeting on Thursday, but I do plan on being at the Stuart Mortimer Seminar in March. If you bring it I would love to see it!!
