    New Table w/ pics

    Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I've posted but I wanted to post some pics of a table I just finished.

I have more pics of it in progress but I'll make another post when I get more time explaining how I built it....if anyones interested.

    hope you like it.

It's made out of Honduran Mahogany, Steel and Cement.
The top " floats" on steel brackets and weighs in at 200 lbs
All the mahogany is 2" thick.

    Thanks for looking.

I really like that design John. Well done.

    How about some dimensions?

Which came first, the chairs or the table?

Very cool, John!! I love the look of that mahogany.

John, as an aside, I remember a while back you were having some pretty serious issues with your shop space and leasing (I think). I'm guessing that all that silliness got worked out...

    Thumbs up

Very cool looking table John. Unique, interesting, and well done. Was the design yours?

That is one well built table John. The first word that comes to mind is STURDY! I too, love the design, look as well as the choice of wood. Nice project and something definitely to be proud of. Well worth the effort.

    John,
My wife would like to know where you got the stools? I think I know what I am in for.
    Thanks,

    John,
Very nice! What is the height? It seems unusual with stools. I guess the top is concrete?

I am not generally into the more modern furniture but this is such a neat design. I really like the use of metal, wood, and concrete.

    Please post the construction pictures.

The Mahogany looks great. I look forward to using mahogany for the first time on bath cabs.

The design of the table is a little unusual. The clients house is on a hill that has an ocean view. They wanted to sit at the table and see the ocean so the top sits at 40", very high for a dining table. They had already ordered the barstools ( i'm not sure from where ) when I started the design but I didn't know what they looked like.

The clients really like my cement furniture series and asked if I could make a dining table. I had not made anything so big and I knew it would be heavy. They also had a requirment of having it overhang on all sides The trick was to make it so I could actually move the thing once it was built but be sturdy enough to cantaliever on all sides. The top is 54"x84" and the steel is 1/8x2" flatbar. The whole underside is re-inforced with 1"angle and the cement sits ontop of attached plywood. The top is one piece. The cement is a plastic bond kote and is only 3/16" thick but is still weighs 200 lbs all together
( I'll post pics in a progress thread of how it's all constructed )
