Light Stand

Does anyone have this light stand? They're pretty pricey, so I'm curious to know how well you like it and how it attaches to a Oneway. I already have a Moffat light with a magnetic base, but it always seems to be in the way on the bed of my lathe. I just discovered the stand today...twice actually, which makes me believe I'm destined to own one. I saw it on their website this afternoon, and now I think I see one buried behind the mess in Andy's "Waltzing Matilda" picture.

For that kind of money I would look into purchasing a dentists' light.

That is indeed one of Gary Sanders' rigs, Jeff. I've had it for quite a while now and cannot imagine life without it. They are a bit pricey, but well worth it. Gary is a real good egg, too.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I'm unclear how it attaches to a Oneway lathe. Do you have to drill new holes in your lathe's legs?

Sorry, Jeff. Got called away on a Snow Management Event (wife put her car in a snow bank).

All the bigger Oneways have a bar welded to the back side of the tube which has a mess of holes drilled and tapped into it. I forget the threading, but knowing Oneway - it's probably metric. Its function is to allow us to bolt accessories to the machine. I believe that the Moffat Light Stand can easily be attached to this; or with an intermediary chunk of wood bolted to it and the stand mounted on the chunk.

Suggest you call or email Gary, tell him what you have, and I'm sure he'll know the best solution. I had a 1018 when I bought my rig, so he also included a special handy dandy bracket that fixed me right up. The 1018 did not have the mounting bar.

That's where I would have placed mine, but since I have the outboard extension on my 1640 I opted to mount my stand on the "back" headstock leg. This lets me use the light rig inboard and outboard, but it's not perfect as this limits the lights use when trying to illuminate the interior of tall hollow forms mounted inboard. One day I'll get a duplicate setup to solve that issue, but for now I just use another old beat up shop light for that.

I saw this llite in Louisville last summer at the AAW symposium on a demo PM lathe. It was Gary's last one for the PM. I brought it home and sure do like it, it is pricey but most good thing cost money. I have the 2 lite version. Go for it.
