You might also post a link the the exact product you're asking about. When I read your post, I wasn't sure if you were referring to the regular DMT diamond plate or something else.

Go into the world and do well. But more importantly, go into the world and do good.
Great for rough shaping, or for flattening stones. Not fine enough for fine honing.
I make constant use of a "coarse" (blue) DMT diamond stone to flatten my Norton water stones.

It is a DMT W8F 8"x2.5/8" Fine "Red Stone".
