    Sharpening Carbide Router Bits

I have a CMT mortising bit that needs sharpening. Is this something that I could do by hand, or should I send it out to be sharpened? If having it professionally done is the better option, does anyone have a recommendation?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jonathan,
You can really only do a touch-up with a diamond hone and may dull it even more if you don't hold it right. A true sharpening on carbide can only be done by a professional. Look in your yellow pages for a sharpening service in your area or go buy another bit.

I do touch-ups with a small diamond 'stick' but if the bit has reached a point where a light touch-up won't do, I'd go pro. I'm OK trying my skill with $20 bits but that is a quality item and deserves the professional touch.
