Mission Oak Bed

Got the white oak from Mike Morgan back in November started milling it in January. Posted about a month ago with a photo before stain and finishing. Well here it is set up. I was really pleased with the material Mike provided. Hope the reviews are good.

The bed is queen size, white oak, 1 1/4 thick all pieces, with four raised panels each on foot and head boards. Panels don't show that well in the pic but really look good. The oak was purchased from Mike Morgan on one of his runs to Maryland. Good material. Everthing is mortised no screws. The finish is golden oak with four coats of water base finish. I looked at several designs and combined a few to come up with this design. By the way I did get to purchase a Yorkcraft Model YC-10 Floor Standing Mortiser for this project. This really made the job easy. I'm thinking of building another and putting it in the local furniture consignment store to see if it would sell, probably ask around $1,450.00 for a queen size. After building this I now think I could produce the bed again in about 80 hours from milling to finishing.

Nice job Rich. I agree with Chris. There is something about the mission style and/or Greene & Greene styles that are just timeless.

I see a lot of furniture in the auction business and my eye is always drawn to these types of pieces.
