The most expensive tool is the one you buy "cheaply" and often...
My favorite for getting a great looking natural Ebony is............a combination of two dyes stains that are made in Italy by the company Ilva. They are sold in 8 oz bottles and are very potent dye concentrates. They are compatible with all finishes. I usually add them to whatever finish I'm using as a toner after the initial staining.
The first is Black mixed with a healthy dose of dark walnut. Try different ratios. This is the key here because true Ebony has a deep brown element to it. The dark walnut adds warmth and depth to the color. I've tried many aniline dyes etc.. and these are the best. You can find them at Camger Chemical in Norfolk MA.
Don't forget to wear gloves!

Go to your local Staples or Office Depot and get some India Ink. Used it on a music stand I built with great results.
Wear gloves for obvious reasons.
