I have watched this old Beech tree, as the property owner developed the property. He recently had it cut down and I recieved permission to cut what I want. The old tree had struggled most of it's life as it was hollow the entire length of the trunk and is covered in burl caps. Worked yesterday until I ran out of sharp chains. Most of the caps had to be cut into smaller pieces on site, as the terrain is steep and everything has to be hand carried out. But the work was worth it. The wood is multi-colored with grain going everywhere. Looking forward to opening one up on the lathe.
