    Maple Bowl "set" critique pls

I just finished these up the other day and finially got around to taking some photos. I called them a set just because they match due to the fact they are from the same piece of wood and have very similar grain and spalting lines.
Larger one: 5 3/8*1 1/2, 1/8 in walls. I tried something funky with the base, not sure if i like it though... mineral oil then buffed.

smaller one: also buffed with mineral oil. 4 3/4* 1 1/4 high 1/16 walls.

    Together:

    critique pls

Those a very nice looking bowls Ben. I am also not sure about the foot. Ben are these bowls meant to be used for food? If not I would use some Watco or Minwax antique oil on them or maybe General Finishes Seal-A-Cell. Just a thought.

Great bowls! The foot might look better curved in then out, but that is my personal opinion! I like your finish on these!

Best not eat out of that bowl if ya been tippin a few. 1/8" might be fragile if you intended then to be used although I wish I could get one that thin.

The round bottom is commonaly found on old indian bowls. They did not have a table to set them on so the round bottom would snuggle into the sand around the campfire. Some call this a calabash style.

I made a big popcorn bowl with a round bottom which my wife loves. It sits in her lap nice watching TV.

Nice Ben! Hard to find a fault with either. The rounded bottom is different but not unappealing. Probably not functional for a cereal bowl but definitely for a popcorn bowl...scratch that...too small for a popcorn bowl for me.

If those are chuck marks that I see on the smaller bowl you should try making some sort of jam or donut chuck. I made the latter recently and have been able to re-turn my bases to make those marks go away.
