    skew sharpening on the Tormek

ANYONE HAVE A 'HANDLE' ON SHARPENING THE SKEW WITH SQUARED CORNERS ON THE TORMEK? IS THERE ANOTHER 'HOLDING BLOCK' I NEED TO GET? THE ONE I HAVE IS FOR THE OVAL SHANKED SKEW.Thanky, Max

    See this thread. http://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=63896

I have the jig shown there and it works great.

The same jig is used for both oval and rectangular skews.

When clamping a rectangular section skew in the SVS-50 closed seat (the skew clamp, most people call it), make sure the corners of the skew do not hang up on the aluminum body or the brass clamping pad. The "vee" shape of both the body and the clamping pad will center the skew perfectly IF the corners of the skew slide into position.

This issue gets particularly important with brand new tools where those square edges are very sharp. They will bite into the softer materials and lock up with the skew not parallel to the tool holder.

I "ease" or round over the corners of my skews to alleviate this problem. It also makes the skew glide and roll on the tool rest much easier.
