    Maloof, Museum Visit - Pics

I was going to go on the 21st of this month when Sam was to speak at the Riverside Art Museum where his work is on display. I went today. Looking, touching, and lounging in his work is quite an experience. I got lots of pics. Here's a few.

If at first you don't succeed, look in the trash for the instructions.

The scale on some of the stuff is awesome. Here's a communion table, cross and a lectern(?). The cross pieces are round and about 5 inches or so in diameter.

It must be awesome to actually touch and sit in some of his furniture. The man was a true artistic genius.

Where is this exhibit at? I did a google search and couldn't come up with anything. I am heading to the OC for a month and think that this should make a great stop!

Glenn, no one has asked the ultimate question - so, when are you going to replicate some of Sam's pieces?? A trip like that would have to inspire one to make an attempt. Maybe start with the Hal Taylor rocker plans??

I have to admit I am possessed by the urge to move some of my mahogany out of the way and bring in a bunch-o-walnut. I've always used walnut for smaller projects like boxes or frames. The exhibit definitely opened my thinking up to larger possibilities.

    That Cradle!

On my honeymoon (1976 - Honolulu), that cradle was on display at some gallery we visited. I was totally fascinated with its design and workmanship - still fascinated with it.

Another pic as a consolation prize then. This chair screams 1960's at me but was dated 2005.

    Hi Glenn,
Sorry you missed hearing Sam speak.
Sounds like the museum is full of cool stuff.
