Covered Porch Ceiling

I need some good advice. A friend is building a two story house in Middle Georgia. The porches are inside an open courtyard with a pool: the concern is what can he put for a ceiling besides vinyl. The summers are usually hot and humid. Any advise would be helpful.

Hardiboard?

As Don mentioned, Hardipanel would be an excellent choice. For a more traditional look, you could use beaded yellow pine.

If you want to keep the wasp nests away, paint the ceiling blue - they think it is the sky and won't build a nest on it.
