When did you join SMC
I joined Saw Mill Creek 11/2/2005 and became a contributer August of this year- Love this place and the people! Help keep it alive and please make a donation.
I found SMC through a web search I was doing on researching Oliver lathes - Lou Lansom's article about his monster lathe- that started the obsession with SMC.
- What do you enjoy the most about SMC?
I like the information and discussions about woodworking and other topics as well. There are many people on here that are more than happy to help out when you run into a problem or need information on certain topics.
- What is the make, model and year of your lathe?
the make of my lathe is an Oliver pattern lathe, the model is a 20C The year it was manufactured was 1909 based on my serial number #890
- What is your lathe's capacity?
24" over the bed and 20" over the carriage.
Center to Center is 105"

I took ownership of The Oliver20 C Pattern Lathe in February 2005 which was located at RIT college in Rochester NY in their wood shop. The Oliver was replaced with 3- OneWay lathes.

220v , 3ph ,3hp Baldore induction motor.
4 speed reduction "Drive All" transmission.

2- 3"/4"/5" step A -v belt pulley from the Baldore motor to the "Drive All" 4 speed transmission.

4 - 6010212 sealed ball bearings , rated at 6000 max rpm/2700lbs thrust at 1000 rmp.

Headstock ad tail stock:
Headstock spindle 32"L x 2" diameter.
Headstock pivots 3" +/- from center for offset turning.
Between centers; spindle size- 1-7/8" accepts#4 Morse tapper attachments. Punch through rod for removal of tools.
Outboard spindle size 2-1/4".
18" 1/4" steel inboard index plate (detachable) plotted in at 5 degree 1/2" port increments.
Tail stock:
#4 Morse Tapper attachments.
2" diameter quill w/1/2" travel grove.
0 - 12" travel with quill handle split lock down.
Offset square 3/4" nut adjustment on front 3" +/- travel from center.
1-1/2" Center lock down nut to Lathe bed.
Pattern carriage:
2 tier pattern carriage.

2 latitude/longitude adjustable steel point markers/w stamped measurements in the 1st tier carriage and the lathe bed on front (24") total.
