    • When did you join SMC?

    Feb 2008

    • How did you find out about this site?

    My Friend Pat Germain

    • What do you enjoy the most about SMC?

IMO woodworkers who have an interest and knowledge of computers find this as a place where you can get a good woodworking fix without going to the shop. Like when you are at work or just have a sec. I have seen more talent here then in my years of reading magazines. I have also made some of the best friends ever!

    • What is the make, model and year of your lathe?

Jet 1220vs (best lathe on here and technically belongs to SMC) We call it "The bomb"! or "Da Bomb"~

    • What is your lathe's capacity?

12 inch diameter, 24 inch length

    Hi,

    I joined SMC 12-09-06

My son, Glenn, introduced me to the site.

What I enjoy most is an extremely difficult question. I just seem to like the entire thing. It is fun to chat. It is great to get answers to questions and it is a pleasure to be able to provide information occasionally to people who ask questions.

My lathe is new to me---have not even stuck a piece of wood in it yet.
It is an old, in excellent condition, Delta 46-140.

    Capacity 11" x 36"

I just took a two day course on woodturning and plan to sign up for the Palomar College woodturning class which starts in August. I understand that it is excellent. Until the two day class I had never used a woodlathe so I am really a newbe.

Personal: born 12-31-1925. I think I am the oldest SMC member---Now that is a horrible thought!!! Reside Oceanside, Calif.

    Enjoy,

    Jim

How did you find out about this site?

A fellow BT3Central Member is here, and linked to a thread he had here. I had to join just to view the thread. :-(. I'm glad I did though.

What do you enjoy the most about SMC?
This site is a LOT like BT3 Central, and I suspect a LOT of the same people are here. I can run with my Ryobi and Harbor Freight filled shop, and nobody gives me grief over it... Instead I get good advice on how to make the most of what I can afford.

What is the make, model and year of your lathe?

Central Machinery (Harbor Freight) #34706, 2009 manufacture.

    What is your lathe's capacity?
Advertised Capacity is 12x33-1/3" on the web site, in the owners manual it is 12x35", and on the carton is 12x36".

My 34706, Turning tool set, face shield, etc... That pitiful practice spindle is attempt #2 at turning anything with a lathe...

Me, my lathes and my toolshop!

    Hi there!

    SDC10798.JPG SDC10799.JPG
Here are some pics of myself in my toolshop doing some pens.

I have a Jet 1014 and a Jet 1442 that replaced my old Harbor Freight lathes. Now I have an old 12" lathe where I glue the rings of the segmented vessels. I also keep 2 Harbor Freight mini lathes, one with a copier and the other one as an spare....

    SDC10036.JPG
The pic in the middle is when I received my new Jet 1442 last February. Quite an event!

This is a pic of my toolshop.
