Thread: Feather Pen Tutorial Posted

    Post Feather Pen Tutorial Posted

Well I finally got the tutorial done for the feather pens.
Its to long to post here so I posted it on my site:
    http://www.shanewhitlock.com/photo/v/wood/pens/feather_tut/

This is the one I made for it. It's not the prettiest or the fanciest one I have done, infact its not very pretty at all ... lol, but it gives ya a good idea of how to go about making them. I do my feather inlay pens pretty much the same way except those have multiple castings and a few other secrets

If ya make one I would love to see it ... Thanks.

    Comments/Critiques always appreciated.

    Happy Turnings,
    Shane Whitlock

    Shane,

    excellent tutorial !

Which pen kit are you using ?

Thanks Keith, Its the Wallstreet II from Woodcraft. They are also called the Sierra at other stores. Great looking pen and very easy kit to put together.

    Smile resin

You may already know this. You can buy a gallon of resin on the web for about $40.00 when I looked at the resin you are using in your tutorial I think I was going to end up paying two times that for the brand you are using.

I'm speechless, I am without speech!

Geez Shane, that is awesome! Not that you do turning to make money, but......................do you really wanna make some money, I mean do you really wanna make some money?

Make a DVD already and you'd sell tons of them, with me as the first purchaser.

Seriously, that is some cool stuff and thanks so much for sharing, although a DVD would be even better . Keep up the great work!

I will be trying this soon, if I can get the pressure pot, that is. I love fly fishin and this would be a great way to keep me thinking of it while turning. Stunning work, very original idea. Keep up the great work!!!

Thanks for all the comments everyone ... Glad you enjoyed the tutorial. If ya cast some feathers I would love to see them.

Sam ... Thanks for the info. If ya watch the news papers they usually have a 50 % off coupon for Michaels. Works out to be about the same price.

Thanks Shane - that is an excellent tutorial for a newbie like me.

    I second David's request for a DVD...

Can you explain a little more about the pressure pot...what kind, where to purchase, etc?

    Thank you!
