Preferred clamp for clamping mitre joints

    Folks,

I enjoy making smallish boxes (usually a foot or so square) but find that it's always a challenge to clamp the mitred sides together. What is your favorite clamp for assembling boxes with mitered corners?

If it's big enough I use a band clamp but depending on the size and shape I also use tape probably more than I use the band clamps.

I have a web thing with a ratchet. It came with 4 metal corner things that you put on the corners and tighten the web with the ratchet. If this doesn't make any sense, it is because my mind is still on the Patriot win today. GO Pats

Depending on the size of the box I use either the small aluminum corner clamps that you can pick up at home depot or lowes.
I also have a larger really nice corner clamp that I use along with an old stanley #400 (I think that is the number) bench mounted corner clamp.
I have used the band typw but don't really care for them as I do one corner at the time, let it dry and then do the next one.

I use the Merle clamp. You can get it at MLCS. They have the best price I have found for the Merle. http://mlcswoodworking.com/shopsite_.../merlclmp.html

I just used the Stanley (Stanley 83-100 15 Bailey Band Clamp) band clamps. I like them better than Pony with the metal corners because the Stanley's plastic corners have small cutouts for the box edges, plus the Stanley's tension handle is much easier to adjust than the ratchet on the Ponys.. just my thoughts..

For small boxes and that type of glue up I have used just about all of the clamp that have been listed.

The last small box I made I used rubber bands, they worked very well.

I have 2 sets of these for clamping small boxes and picture frames. I also added some threaded rod and joiners to make up any size I require.

I have an older version (not by Lee Valley) of this type of clamp I use for picture frames mostly. I also use a nylon band clamp and sometimes use tape or even pipe clamps depending upon the size of the box.

I'm using shop-made one. The corner units are the same width as the strap.
I added some 1/8" plywood fences to keep the strap in place.
The strap is the "ratchet" type, used to tie things to the car roof.

old bicycle tube, using corner blocks similar to what Nissim has shown.
