Thread: I built another R/C truck

    I built another R/C truck

    Hey Every One,

Here is one of the excuses why I haven't been around so much.

    This is not a kit.

I built it from after market and fleabay parts, one piece at a time.

It is 4 wheel drive, the differentials alone cost as much as the ones on

a full size car, and you have to build them. The motor has been

turboed, ported and polished. The only pieces of plastic are the two bumper mounts.

Yeah I am nutz...but this kinda stuff gets me out of myself.

'Sides, it's only half a shop bot. But........

It kept me out of trouble for 6 months.

That's quite a great piece of work there, Per! Nice job...

What motor are you using in that thang?

    Jim,

That is a .32 Axial. with turbo head.

What that means is the top of the motor where the glow plug

goes in has been replaced with a domed fixture.

More air, bigger and hotter plug.

It weighs 14 lbs and 65mph+ is not a stretch.

Its not as scary as this thing though.....

That float plane looks wonderful, too! Nice...

It's been many years since I flew R/C, but I can't afford multiple expensive hobbies...largely relative to time. At a recent open house event at our local airport, there was a club there that had some really nice flight simulation software running. I "took the stick" for awhile and it was more or less like a bicycle...no problems. Of course, it was good that it was just software when my daughter tried to fly...she's not good at taking directions and crashing virtually was at least less painful!

    Jim,

    Seriously,

    spend 200 bucks on this.

    Helis also. http://www.realflight.com/

Now folks, before you think this is all fun and games.

this hobby directly affect the work I get paid for.

For instance, I built my first flying wooden airplane at 11 years old.

Little did I know then that what I really learned was how to

    read a blueprint. And patience.

Yes, that's the software they had at the demo.

Nice truck chassis. That is one fun hobby, and expensive too. I sold my two heli's last year in order to keep feeding my shop with tools. It would be nice to have the time to do both, RC and woodworking. Maybe when I retire I'll get back in.

    Thanks Jim,

    Expensive.....is a understatement.

Of course I had to go and buy a Sensor and a React...

    http://www.nomadio.net/hobby/sensor.php

Because...well,,,, I guess I just had to have them.

Didn't need them. But my radios were 5 years old.

No remorse, alittle cringing, but no remorse.

Thats a nice truck you have there. So much detail.
So I work on trucks for a living, and play in the shop for a hobby. You work in the shop for a living and play with trucks for a hobby. Hmmmm.....Jim.

    Oh Baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I LOVE R/C flying.!!!!!

I used to be an R/C Flight Instructor at our flying club when I lived in Alabama. When we moved to Arkansas, I had just finished and done the maiden flight of my 1st Quarter Scale Spacewalker. Too bad there aren't any flying fields around here that are any where as nice as the one I used to fly at in Huntsville, AL....Rocket City Radio Controllers........I sure miss those great times, but I don't miss the money missing from my pockets though.
    Thanks & Happy Wood Chips,

I can see how that would be a nice mental break from wood and jobs (mostly clients really). You could probably drink while building that too... not so with the wood.

Nicely done. Wish I had the time.

Been a while for me, first rc plane was left turn only, and you built the transmitter and reciever from a kit, was quite the deal to from 1 to 2 channel...

Nice truck, they sure have developed from way back, both planes and vechicles, in fact a local rc boat club used to have races just off the freeway in one of the little ponds, some pretty nice boats there too.

Be fun to get back into one of them, just need the time...

    Al...and money..

    Per,

OMG, you aren't actually going to drive that thing are you?

Amazing how many R/C airplane people there are on this forum. I used to do it 10-12 years ago. Had to stop when my twins were born. It was just as well. I had crashed and destroyed nearly everything I ever built. I was about to get into sailplanes big time when I had to chuck it all. Fast-moving planes were too nerve wracking for me and flying fields were hard to come by.

Where do you fly the Piper? I'm in your area, but don't know of a flying field anywhere local.

Thanks for sharing your latest project. Must be nice to have no kids (you must have no kids. No sane person with kids would build that -- as soon as the kids saw it, it would be toast).

    Jack
